Mini Facelift involves less extensive surgical manipulation of the facial tissue compared to the traditional Full Facelift.

In Mini Facelift, the surgical incision line remains in front of the ear. It does not extend behind the ear. During the procedure, branches of the Facial Artery and the Facial Nerve are not exposed. Hence there is less tissue trauma, less risk of injury to the facial neuro-vascular structures and quicker recovery.

Mini Facelift is best suited to a person who is contemplating a serious facial rejuvenation procedure with visibly significant and longer-lasting results.

The procedure is designed for patients who have started to notice facial sagging but want a procedure which delivers more noticeable and longer-lasting results than any non-surgical option (such as a Thread Lift or Liquid Facelift-using dermal fillers) may be able to achieve.

Patients opting for a Mini-facelift are concerned about facial sagging alone and are not ready for a more extensive Full Face Lift which targets both the face as well as the neck.

Dr Jadoon also offers a slightly more extensive variation of the Mini Facelift for patients who want some improvement in the loose neck skin as well.

S-Lift and MAC-Lift surgeries are slight variations of the Mini-facelift procedure. Many cosmetic surgeons consider S-Lift and MAC-Lift just fancy names of Mini Facelift.

At Medaesthetics, the procedure is routinely performed under local anaesthesia as a day procedure while the patient is awake. Hospitalization is not required. Patients are allowed to go home after the surgery.

On average, the procedure takes just under two hours from start to finish. Additional time is needed if another surgery (such as blepharoplasty) is being performed at the same time.

We routinely perform this procedure under local anaesthesia while the patient is awake. We also offer this procedure under twilight sedation in an accredited Day Hospital in East Perth if the patient prefers to be asleep during the surgery (additional costs are associated with this option).

We offer our patients the highest level of care and make every effort to ensure that any procedure we perform is associated with minimal pain or discomfort.

First, we apply a very strong topical anaesthetic cream to numb the facial skin. Once the skin is superficially numbed, we use very small needles (similar to wrinkle relaxer needles) to inject the local anaesthetic under the skin to completely anaesthetise the area.

Patients are pleasantly surprised when the procedure is completed without any pain.

Initial recovery from Mini Facelift is about 10 days. Most patients are able to perform house chores and light physical activity after five days. Sutures are usually taken out on the tenth day after the surgery. Female patients can easily cover the incisions with their hair.

For patients who want complete discretion, we recommend taking two weeks off work.

In most cases, the incision scars are barely noticeable and begin to fade quickly within a few weeks.

Patients may have some numbness in the treated area after the surgery. This will disappear with time.

Most patients can return to office-based work within five to seven days. We recommend at least two weeks off work if your work involves heavy physical activity or travelling. A medical Certificate can be organised for work which will not mention the name of your procedure.

Light activity is permitted after the first three days and light exercise is usually okay after two weeks.

Like any surgical procedure, this procedure comes with possible risks and complications that include, but are not limited to:

Temporary skin discolouration at the incision lines

All surgical procedures performed under General Anaesthesia or Twilight Sedation should only be performed in a hospital under the supervision of a qualified Anaesthetist. Potential risks associated with sedation are:

Respiratory Depression and Compromise
Cardiovascular Depression and Compromise
Increased Risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
Prolonged Nausea and Vomiting after the surgery
Prolonged Hangover
Short Term and Long Term Amnesia (memory loss) are some of the significant side effects.

Very high quantities of local anaesthetic are known to cause systemic toxicity which can result in cardiovascular compromise.

At Medaesthetics, all procedures carried out under local anaesthesia are done using the minimal amount of local anaesthesia as per medical guidelines.

To be considered suitable for undergoing any elective cosmetic procedure, you have to:

Be able to follow the pre and post-surgical instructions

Have realistic expectations

People generally unfit to undergo most cosmetic surgery procedures are:

In summary, preparation for any surgical procedure involves:

Avoiding blood-thinning medication. Please make sure to discuss this with your GP in detail and be aware of any side effects of the medications you are currently on.
Herbal medication and nutritional supplements such as St John’s Wart, garlic, ginger, ginseng, homeopathic or herbal tonics, fish oil, green tea etc have to be stopped for at least 2 weeks before surgery. These substances are known for their potential to thin blood and may cause excessive bleeding during and after the surgery.
It is essential to avoid alcohol and cigarettes at least two weeks before and after your surgery to minimize the risk of surgical bleeding and delayed recovery.
We recommend that you do all your grocery shopping before surgery and refill your fridge and pantry with healthy food.
We also recommend that you organise for someone to give you a lift back home as driving is not recommended for the first few days after the surgery.
You also must consider organising a family member or friend to stay with you for the first two days after your surgery.

It is imperative that you follow the pre-surgical instructions given to you by our staff. Alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking are the two major culprits when it comes to increasing potential risks associated with any surgery. Please avoid these harmful agents for at least two weeks (preferably more) prior to your surgery.

Both alcohol and cigarettes interfere with the normal healing process, increase the pain and discomfort associated with any surgery, increase the risk of potential complications such as bleeding, wound infection and scarring and as a result prolong the recovery time.

In clinical practice, we have found that a herbal substance called Arnica is helpful in reducing bleeding during or after the surgery. It also helps with healing and minimises bruising. Arnica is a naturally occurring herb and is available as an oral supplement from most health food stores and pharmacies in Australia.

A healthy lifestyle, good sleep and a balanced nutritional diet after surgery are essential factors for optimum healing.

Results of Mini Facelift usually last up to five years or more. However, In clinical practise, we find that some patient age more rapidly than others.
