General Information

What Is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia (informally known as Man-boobs) is a condition in which the glandular tissue in a male’s breasts becomes enlarged, resulting in the appearance of breast tissue in men.

This condition can occur at any age but usually begins at the onset of puberty. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including hormonal imbalances, certain medical conditions, and the use of certain medications including anabolic steroids.

Gynecomastia can be physically and emotionally distressing for the affected individual.

Some patients may also experience occasional pain or discomfort in the chest area.

The gland often increases or decreases in size with temperature. It becomes enlarged and noticeable when the body is warm and disappears completely when the body is cold.

Types Of Gynecomastia

There are two distinct types:

Real Gynecomastia

The gland is solid and rubbery with tough consistency. Usually found in patients who have used anabolic steroids or performance-enhancement drugs in the past.

Pseudo Gynecomastia

The gland is primarily made up of condensed fat cells with variable glandular tissue components. This type of gynecomastia is usually found in patients who are overweight with a genetic predisposition, poor diet, and less active lifestyle.

In the vast majority of patients, we find both the gland as well as fat cells.

One-sided (Unilateral) Gynecomastia

Some patients just have one chest gland which is enlarged and visibly noticeable. For such patients, we can perform unilateral gynecomastia surgery.

Why Consider Gynecomastia (Gyno) Surgery?

Patients wanting Gynecomastia surgery are looking to have a flat, more masculine-looking chest.

Vaser™ Assisted Chest Liposuction & Gynecomastia Surgery

Dr. Jadoon combines Vaser® Assisted Liposuction of the chest with each gynecomastia surgery.

Vaser® liposuction procedure melts and gently removes the excess fat in the chest area using Ultrasound waves. Once the fat has been liquified, it can easily be removed through liposuction before the gland is surgically removed.

This technique delivers far superior results compared to traditional Gynecomastia surgery where just the gland is removed and proper contouring of the chest with aft removal is not carried out.

Scar Management After Gynecomastia

The incisional scars after Gynecomastia are barely noticeable and begin to fade quickly within a few weeks.

At MedAesthetics, we have the most extensive range of Fractional CO2 Lasers to help reduce any type of scarring whether related to surgery or trauma.

Post Surgical Follow Up

Complimentary follow ups are included to all cosmetic surgery patients until they have fully healed.

The Pain Factor

Our highly experienced clinical team do their utmost to minimise any treatment associated pain or discomfort. Having fine motor skills and gentle pair of hands are important assets for any clinician.

Depending upon the type of of procedure being performed, we use high-strength topical numbing cream, inhalation (laughing) gas, local anaesthesia as well as skin cooling device to make the procedure as tolerable as possible.

Important

As per new AHPRA & Australian Medical Board guidelines, all cosmetic surgery patients will require a referral from a GP to be able to have a cosmetic surgery consultation.

All cosmetic patients will require a psychological assessment to rule out body dysmorphia before undergoing any cosmetic surgery.

How To Choose Your Treatment Provider

The decision to undergo any cosmetic treatment can be quite daunting for some people. It can be tough to find the right clinician who you can trust.

People want to choose a clinician who can listen to them carefully and understand their concerns. Someone whose clinical skills deliver effective and hassle-free results with minimal discomfort or downtime.

We recommend that people should do their due diligence before choosing their treatment provider and not base their decision solely on the cheapest pricing in town. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
